THE FIRE
The fire at
Rostov's Coffee & Tea started when chaff in the coffee bean roaster caught fire which ignited further chaff in the vent system. This vent system connects to the cyclone seperator which usually collects chaff in the bin at the bottom and releases hot air through the chimney. Fire department personnel put out the fire in the roaster and drilled holes in the vent system to spray water to extinguish the fire but it was too late as a chimney fire had already developed.
THE REPAIR
Eurotech Chimney Restoration cleared and secured the area after the fire and reconnected the cyclone seperator to new elbows and chimney liner. The intake to the chimney was packed and sealed.
The new liner was inserted and packed with thermex to stop heat igniting any combustible material left in the chimney and the new cap was sealed and attached to code.
Eurotech Chimney Restoration will be consulting with Rostov's Coffee & Tea during their transition to new premises in Cary Court in April to make sure the coffee roasting process remains safe.
